The second race of the 2010 calender took place on Saturday 24th July in what could only be described as pea soup conditions. With visability just about on the edge of raceable as the boats moved to the start line in Ballyteigue Bay, they were anything but visable by race end. Getting any photos of on water action were out of the question, most crews were hard pressed to find the finish line only for the use of GPS. While Yola had a near ten minute cushion over the runner up, Samedi, the gap for third and fourth was much closer. 56 seconds separated Samedi from Terantulus and a mere 8 seconds further back was Twilight Song. This battle for the last place on the podium will take a lot of beating for the best battle for places for the season, a pity that because of the visability, on the two protagonists themselves could witness it. The final battle of the day once all finishers had crossed the line, was for all boats to return safely to harbour, the Commodore stating in his presentation pre-amble, that the race control had a job similar to "herding cats" to see the fleet safely home. There will be a lot of prayers said before August 1st for better weather for the seasons third race, the Des and Margaret Walsh perpetual trophy in aid of the RNLI.
