The crew of Rascal receiving the winners trophy from Margaret Walsh.
In weather conditions much more favourable to sailing, and also finding your way around, than last week's foggy encounter, Rascal took the win in the Des & Margaret Walsh perpetual trophy race. In a very close tussle for the win, Rascal got the better of Out and About by the narrow margain of 18 seconds. Out and About, on a visit to Kilmore from Skerries, started the race on a different stratagy than the rest of the fleet, heading almost to the last mark before putting in a tack to bring it to the first mark in one tack. This paid off well as they passed the first mark in second place and then took the lead on the next leg. They rounded the second mark in a slight lead over Rascal, only to be overtaken by the winner on the downwind run to the finish as the wind slackened. Samedi followed up last week's good result with a well earned third place, nearly seven minutes after the top two. Three minutes passed before we got our forth boat home. Twilight Song came in with 51 seconds to spare over The ballad of Leapylee, who in turn had 31 seconds of a gap in front of Muscadet. Exactly two minutes passed before Tweedledum came home in eighth, while Bumbalash took up the rear just under five minutes later. In a race that was part of a club fundraising effort for the RNLI, the club managed to raise €4,250 when the auction that took place at the prize giving was added to the race entry fees, a big well done to everyone. We all will welcome the arrival of the new boat to our local station in the coming months. Pictures from the race will be here shortly.
